Examples page - find exactly what it costs, wherever you are in the world.

  • UK   (OR sending elsewhere but paid for in UK cash or with UK bank cheque.)
  • Western Europe
  • Rest of the World
    It might be worth looking at all examples even if you are elsewhere because different points are coverered in each one.

    Below are examples of HOW to calculate cost, they take no account of the actual price today of the product or particularly of the post costs which change regularly. For precise and up to date figures consult the product page and the mail order page.
    If this daunts you, (although it is actually quite easy,) buy on-line - all calculations are then automatic.

    United Kingdom

    Example 1-   Budding Author by Neil Gee, paid for by UK bank cheque (made payable to Inter-Read) to be sent second class post to an address in the UK:
  • Basic cost (from the Budding Author details accessed from the book list) = £3·90
  • Post category A (also from the book details) = 1 X £1·10 = + £1·10
  • No exchange involved - (no other costs to add) = + £0
    TOTAL = £5
  • Send a cheque made payable to Inter-Read (not Infinity Junction,) (crossed AC payee) along with your full postal address and e-mail address and say which book you want. (Go back to mail-order office for more details.)

    Sending to a friend abroad -
    Example 2-   Not For Bedtime, paid for by UK bank cheque (made payable to Inter-Read) to be sent as rapidly as possible by airmail to an address in Australia:

  • Basic cost (from the Not For Bedtime details accessed from the book list) = £8·99
  • Post category B (also from the book details) world airmail = + £7·50
  • No exchange involved - (no other costs to add) = + £0
    TOTAL = £16·49
  • Send a cheque made payable to Inter-Read (not Infinity Junction) (crossed AC payee) along with the full postal address to send it to and your e-mail address and say which book you want. (Go back to mail-order office for more details.)
    NOTE- if speed is of the essence and you have electronic (on-line) banking facilities, E-mail us for our sort code and arrange a direct money transfer to save time.

    Western Europe (EC)

    Example 3-   The Forgotten Army, by Roy Yates, paid for in euros to be sent surface mail to an address in France:
  • Basic cost (from The Forgotten Army details accessed from the book list) = UK£7·99
  • Post category A (also from the book details) = + £2·10
  • Add £1 exchange charge (only once per order) = + £1
  • Convert total cost (£11·09 UK) into euros:
       At, say 1·6 euros to 1 pound (1 euro = £0·62) this becomes
    TOTAL = 17·74 euros. Round-up to the next negotiable denomination (notes only) = 20 euros. Send a 2 X 10 or one 20 euro bank note along with your full postal address and say which book you want.
        In this case the minimum negotiable denomination rule works unfavorably to the customer and credit-card purchase on-line is recommended instead. Alternatively the customer might prefer to purchase additional books until the minimum denomination rule works more favorably. (See next example.)

    Example 4-   3 copies of The Forgotten Army by Roy Yates, paid for in euros to be sent surface mail to an address inside EC Europe:

  • Basic cost (from The Forgotten Army details accessed from the book list) = £7·99 X 3 = UK£23.97
  • Post category A (also from the book details) = £2·10 X 3 = + £6·30
  • Add £1 exchange charge (only once per order) = + £1
  • Convert total cost (£31·27 UK) into euros:
       At, say 1·6 euros to 1 pound (1 euro = £0·62) this becomes
    TOTAL = 50·03 euros. Forget ·03 euros, although unless we're talking of small amounts we'd normally expect you to round-up to the next negotiable denomination.
  • Send 50 euros in banknotes, along with your full postal address and e-mail address and say which book(s) you want.
    NOTE- the exchange rate quoted is not necessarily what it is now. Please check at the time of ordering. (Go back to mail-order office for more details.)

    rest of the world

    *NOTE- the US dollar has significantly weakened since this was written - please consult the latest newspapers or try international bank websites for the very latest exchange rate, or buy on-line with your credit card to get automatic currency conversion.

    Example 5-   Not For Bedtime, paid for in US$ actual cash banknotes, to be sent standard mail to an address in California:
  • Basic cost (from the Not For Bedtime details accessed from the book list) = UK£8·99
  • Post category B (also from the book details) world surface mail = + UK£3·50
  • Add £1 exchange charge (only once per order) = + £1
  • Convert total cost (UK£13·49) into US dollars:
       At, say 1·45 dollars to 1 pound (1 US$ = £0·69) this becomes
    TOTAL = 19·56 US dollars.
  • Round-up to the nearest negotiable denomination = 20US dollars.
  • Send $20 in US bank notes of no less than $10 each, along with your full postal address and e-mail address and say which book you want. (10 dollars US is the smallest $ note we can exchange- do NOT send any denomination less than $10 because it is utterly worthless to us and you won't get your book until payment that we can bank has arrived.)
    NOTE- the exchange rate quoted is not necessarily what it is now. Please check at the time of ordering. (Go back to mail-order office for more details.)
    NOTE 2- in some cases you'll find the next negotiable denomination jump is unfortunatly large and the minimum denomination rule works unfavorably to the customer - see the note for the first European example (3).

    Example 6-   2 copies of Budding Author by Neil Gee, paid for by bankers order in UK pounds made payable to Inter-Read, to be sent standard mail to an address in South Africa:

  • Basic cost (from the Budding Author details accessed from the book list) = UK£3·90 X 2 = UK£7·80
  • Post category A (also from the book details) world surface mail = £3·10 X 2 = + £6·20
  • (Your bank will charge you for conversion when drawing up the bankers order in UK pounds- we don't need to charge.) = + £0
  • TOTAL from above = UK£14.
  • Send bankers order for UK£14·00 (pounds sterling) made payable to Inter-Read (not Infinity Junction,) along with your full postal address and e-mail address and say which book(s) you want.
