What, How, DOs, DON'Ts and MAYBEs

Most important - First make sure you have read and understood our general guidelines accessed through 'get published!' (but please click here if you are NOT already at Infinity Junction's website.) Less experienced submitters would do well to read Infinity Junction's Budding Bestseller Guide first.

WHAT - What we usually like to see from book authors is a synopsis, (or detailed description for non-fiction,) somewhere in the region of 500-600 words, although exact length is not critical. We also need to see some of your book, preferably two or three chapters of average length or the equivalent. This should be a word-processor file although we will accept word-processed prints - (enclose SAE if you want it back.) Please use modern RTF (Rich Text or .rtf) for digital submissions or up-to-date Microsoft Word (.doc) to be sure we can read it. Do not convert to .pdf ! Also avoid Works- if you have used it, convert to Word 2000+ and check the formatting before sending.
If you have already had your book published and want us to sell it, please send a copy of the actual book by post (address at page bottom.) Accompany this with a letter or send us an e-mail explaining all about it. Note- we deal almost exclusively by e-mail so you need to have and regularly read e-mail.

HOW - Attach your submission for Infinity Junction to an E-mail in which you have explained exactly what is attached, also label the subject of your E-mail with the title of your work and the word 'submission' clearly seen, or if entering for a particular publication, the title of that. This is because unrecognised attachments are deleted as part of virus security. Please do not compress (zip) files without clearing it with us first because the automatic security system can delete these even if named in the text or title. Also - do not use a disguised E-mail address - we don't respond to any of these.
If you use Windows or most other modern software, all you have to do is click on our E-mail link at the bottom of this page, put a title in the subject box, write something about you and the work you are submitting, click the paper-clip symbol, find the word-processor or text file and click attach or yes, or whatever other button is relevant, then send your E-mail. (You need to be logged on to the internet for it to go.)

     * NOTE- if you are submitting to Inter-Read Writers Showcase please say so clearly. (Link at bottom of page.)

DOs
   1) Use a fairly up to date word-processor with the most recent font versions: many pre-millennium editions don't handle certain characters in quite the same manner - eg the Euro sign doesn't work.    2) Send text in modern ASCII (plain text - .txt - without forced line returns) for maximum chance that it will load properly, alternatively modern RTF. If not then Microsoft Word, (Not Ms Publisher,) Impression Publisher (without smart quotes,) Lotus or QuarkXpress are acceptable.    3) Do thoroughly check and amend if necessary first, spell-check and look for correct punctuation, accurate use of spaces, returns and tabs.    4) Do separate chapters using page-breaks, not line returns, unless you only want a few lines between them.    5) Standardise on modern single-spacing between sentences and words. Search your document for spurious extra spaces, line returns etc and fix them before sending.    6) Keep use of italics and other styles to a minimum.    7) If using accents or unusual lettering styles, etc, include a copy of the fonts that you have used to ensure they come out the same on our equipment. (Fonts change from time to time and vary from country to country.) Fonts are normally accessed from your own hard disc in a 'fonts' folder or directory. If you use Windows, this can found inside the Windows folder.    8) Synopses and short samples can be sent to infin-info@infinityjunction.com. More than about 800 words should be sent to infin-input@infinityjunction.com - please no more than about 8,000 words without being invited to send more. All fiction books should be accompanied by a relevant synopsis somewhere around 500 words. Non fiction should have a concise description of at very least 200 words.    9) Keep your synopsis entirely relevant - it should describe the submission clearly, saying what it's about, the outline story if fiction, plus possibly the likely target audience, the background or context to it. It should not exceed 800 words if you expect it to be read carefully.    10) If contacting us by post, a stamped self-addressed envelope will be needed for a postal reply. Please ensure the post is adequate for return of sample if required. Please note that we do NOT accept international reply coupons or non-euro-stamps except British.

DON'Ts
    0) Don't send until it is absolutely ready and double-checked. 1) Old word-processors should be avoided as they often use their own quirky interpretations of ASCII, RTF, or save in odd file formats. If you have used one, convert it to Word98 or newer, or third millennium RTF, using a modern computer before sending. Do NOT send as .pdf or in zipped (compressed) format.    2) NEVER send to Infinity Junction by forwarding via any computer other than your own internet server - all such E-mail is filtered out and we won't even see it.   3) Never manually force line returns when typing unless you intend to start a new paragraph or speech/poetry line. Let the word-processor take care of all other line returns and line spacing automatically. (Never double-space by hand!)    4) Don't send whole printed manuscripts without being invited, it's a waste of time and money and most likely little of it will be read.    5) Don't send hand-written or conventional typewritten submissions because Infinity Junction now deals exclusively in digital texts.    6) Only use the file types listed above in 'DOs'-part-2, or simple text (as in basic E-mail.) Less common file-types are unlikely to be readable.    7) Don't give up! E-mail us if you want further information or help - free.

MAYBEs
   1) We have a very large booklet, called Budding Bestseller (ex Budding Author) - it's great value and can be purchased right now if you have a credit card - Budding Bestseller details.    2) Why not talk to us? We don't bite and it costs you virtually nothing to E-mail - remember advice is free so long as it is by E-mail. E-mail now.
